Every piece of Rough Old Glass antiqued mirror is hand silvered by our skilled artisans in our North Devon workshops. This traditional process is at the heart of what makes our antique mirror glass unique.
The Artisanal Hand Silvering Process
Our process begins with carefully selected clear or tinted glass. Each panel is thoroughly cleaned and prepared to ensure a flawless bond with the silver. We then pour or spray a traditional silver solution onto the reverse of the glass. This is the same time‑honoured method used to create antique mirrors for centuries.
To achieve our signature range of finishes, we apply a resist by hand during the silvering process. This creates areas of thinner and more solid silvering, resulting in authentic levels of distressing and “foxing” that mimic the look of genuine aged mirror glass. Each panel is unique, with subtle variations that reflect the skill and artistry of our team.
