Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can an antique mirror splashback go behind an AGA, range cooker or hob?

Yes. We hand-silver glass that has been thermally toughened to BS EN 12150. Toughened glass withstands sudden temperature differences of around 200°C, roughly five times more than ordinary glass, and is four to five times stronger. Please follow your appliance manufacturer’s minimum clearance distances.

How much does an antique mirror splashback cost?

The price depends on the size, finish, cut-outs and edges. You can price your splashback instantly online, including toughening and installation. For more complex projects, email your sizes, finish and postcode to info@rougholdglass.co.uk and we’ll usually send an estimate within one working day.

How long does a splashback take to make?

Heritage Collection finishes take 4–5 weeks to make, and Studio Collection finishes 3–4 weeks. With survey and installation, allow 6–8 weeks from order. Your lead time is confirmed with your estimate.

How do I measure, and can you cut out for sockets?

Measure in millimetres once your worktops are fitted, and mark the position of sockets, switches and pipes. Cut-outs are made before the glass is toughened and silvered. Standard socket cut-outs are 135 x 75mm (double) and 75 x 75mm (single). You can send a sketch, an MDF or plywood template, or a DXF drawing, or we can survey for you.

How do I clean an antique mirror splashback?

Use warm water on a soft, lint-free cloth, then dry with a second cloth. Spray any cleaner onto the cloth, never onto the mirror, and keep liquid away from the edges. Avoid ammonia, vinegar, acid and abrasive cleaners.
