A Guide to Choosing an Antique Mirror Splashback for Your Kitchen
An antique mirror splashback adds light, depth and character to a kitchen, and it's one of our most popular commissions. Here's what to consider when choosing yours.
1. Style
Think about the overall look of your kitchen. Antique mirror works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary schemes. Lighter finishes feel fresh and understated; heavily distressed finishes make more of a statement and suit period or industrial interiors.
2. How reflective you want it
Our finishes range from highly reflective to softly muted or heavily distressed. Consider how much light you want bounced around the room. Vintage is our most popular finish for kitchen and AGA splashbacks: softly aged, with a classic antique look that isn't too busy.
3. Size and placement
Decide whether you want a full-width splashback or a panel just behind the hob or sink. Larger areas can be made up of several panels. Our guide to measuring for your antique mirror explains what we need.
4. Safety
Splashbacks behind a hob, range cooker or AGA must be toughened to resist heat. We also recommend toughening wherever cutouts for sockets are needed. All of our antique mirror finishes can be supplied on toughened glass, and a protective backing is applied as standard.
5. Living with it
Mirror glass will show fingerprints and splashes, but it's a hygienic, easy-to-clean surface. See our guide to caring for antique mirror glass.
6. Installation
A straightforward panel with no cutouts can be fitted by a competent DIYer or your kitchen fitter. For larger or more complex splashbacks, we offer a full survey, supply and installation service.
7. Budget
Price depends on size, finish, toughening and cutouts. Get an instant price with our panel and splashback estimator. We're happy to suggest panel layouts or alternative finishes to help you stay within budget.
8. Lead times
Most splashbacks take 4–5 weeks to make, or 6–8 weeks with survey and installation. Read more about lead times.
9. See it in your kitchen
The best way to choose is to see samples in your own light, next to your worktops and cabinet colours. Order samples here: the cost is refunded when they're returned in perfect condition within 30 days.
